This car was found on a local newsgroup strictly by accident. I love the lines of the car so after some discussions with the owner [who was the original owner] I purchased it on August 9 2005.
The car was originally purchased in Toronto,Canada and driven to Halifax, Nova Scotia where it has remained. It is very hard to find any kind of car here that does not have a lot of rust on it. As you can see from the pictures in the restoration gallery there was very little considering it was 33 years young. It has a 360 cu.in.4bbl V-8,Auto, ps, pb, am radio, sports steering wheel,front and rear sway bars, black interior and black vinyl roof. The body was the 27,883rd body produced by AMC for the 1972 production year. The car was the 27,617th car produced in late October or early November 1971 on the West line at the Kenosha,Wis, plant. It was the 155,543 order processed by AMC for the 1972 year.The Seats were made on March 15, 1971 by the J.P. Stevens & Co.,Inc. The door panels were made [at least one of them] on Oct.6 1971 and signed by "Connie". The engine was made on Oct 18 1971. The transmission [a 998 torque-flyte] was made on Oct 4 1971. I found a build sheet on top of the headliner. What a find! This car retailed for $4,824.87 in 1972. AMC only produced 986 of these cars for the 1972 year which was the last year for the SST line. The entire AMC production for 1972 was 305,450 units so the 2dr. h/top SST represented a very small piece of the pie. The interior is near perfect other than the headliner which suffers from the same illness all AMC`s do. I am going to convert the front drums to a disc setup off a 73 Ambassador for obvious reasons. It will be repainted the original C-2 Stardust Silver with a replacement Black vinyl roof.
